French record company Naïve has partnered with chamber orchestra Appassionato to create ‘Appassionato, le label’.

This new label has been launched with the album ‘Métamorphoses nocturnes’, featuring Strauss’s Métamorphoses, Respighi’s setting of Shelley’s La tramonta and Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht – all recorded live at La Seine Musicale, Paris, on September 11. The performances were conducted by Appassionato’s Founder and Artistic Director Mathieu Herzog (formerly of Quatuor Ebène), and with the soprano Adèle Charvet as soloist in the Respighi. The recording was released digitally on Apple Music on September 17, but as of this week is now available on all other digital platforms.

Currently Artist-in-Residence at La Seine Musicale, Appassionato draws its members from a number of other French chamber ensembles, including the Ebène and Arod Quartets and Trio Sõra. Reviewing Appassionato’s first recording in its own right, Mozart’s last three symphonies on Naïve, David Threasher wrote: ‘The ensemble sound is one of the glories of this set … The contribution of each player is palpable’ (1/19).

The new recording will be available physically from October 8. You can listen to it below via Apple Music.
